Owners & Directors

Australian Saltworks is privately owned with all shareholders being Australian salt industry professionals. The two owners are Executive and Non-Executive Directors and work in the business. All Directors play an active role in guiding the growth objectives of the business.

The owners, directors and staff collectively have a wealth of experience in the Australian domestic and international salt markets. The business principles all have experience in managing salt businesses, managing business development in the industry sector and in technical management in the solar salt and vacuum salt sectors.

The team is well respected through an extensive operational & business management track record and in the provision of consulting services globally.

This equips the business well to continue to manage its growth in a competitive marketplace.

Michael McNamara

Managing Director

Aus Salt Pty Ltd & Australian Saltworks Pty Ltd

Michael is a manufacturing business specialist with over 20 years' experience in the salt industry as well as related industries such as Chlor-Alkali and chemicals. Michael has worked in industry roles from Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Business Development Manager, Sales & Marketing Manager and Chief Operating Officer.

In 2008 Michael founded Aus Salt Pty Ltd which is the holding company for the group's salt interests. The company has developed its global consulting and salt manufacturing businesses since that time. Aus Salt Pty Ltd has built a competitive Australian salt business on the back of the acquisition of the Mulgundawa Salt business in 2011 and the commencement of trading as Australian Saltworks in 2012.

Michael works in the business developing the company's solar salt field operations and refining business as well guiding sales & marketing activities including its recent growth and expansion into all market segments.

Bill Poynton

Bill is the leading salt industry professional in the country. His experience in the industry spans almost 30 years and Bill has worked in salt industry roles from Engineering Manager through to Chief Executive Officer.

Bill has significant industry experience in establishing, growing and managing salt businesses. This included establishing the Diamond Salt business in 1988, which ultimately allowed Ridley corporation to acquire the biggest player in the market, Cheetham Salt in 1993.

Bill has also managed a range of M&A activities and brings to the business excellent breadth of industry knowledge. Bill is experienced in every aspect of salt business operation from a high level of engineering and technical expertise through to commercial, structural, financing, and governance aspects.

Bill presently manages his own business importing and selling high-quality vacuum salt products into the Australian market. Bill was previously Managing Director and CEO of Cheetham Salt Ltd. Bill has an intimate knowledge of all aspects of the Australian salt industry.
