Bajool Salt Development

Located in an area already established as source of solar salt, the company has a large area under Exploration Permit EPM 19032 where it plans to develop a solar salt works. The Bajool development has the potential to fill a substantial and emerging supply gap in the Queensland salt market. The location is well suited to access economic road freight into Brisbane whilst also allowing supply into the central and north Queensland regions.

CSG Salt Development

The company is evaluating options for partnering with Coal Seam Gas producers to assist in the management of saline waste generated from the mining operations. The company has technology using crystallisation techniques that allows management of CSG waste salts containing high levels of carbonate as well as chlorides. Potential exists to develop a solar evaporation based operation of some scale that produces both sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate (and/or soda ash) products.

Mulgundawa Operations

Salt making at the Mulgundawa Saltworks can be traced back to the 1870’s with a documented history of salt being shipped from the Mulgundawa Jetty by boat to Goolwa where it was then sent by rail to Adelaide. Evidence exists of salt production occurring in the 1850’s. The site now is home to the Australian Saltworks headquarters with an integrated conventional salt field operation and manufacturing, laboratory & warehousing facilities. Integrating three main evaporation areas in a common salt field operation the Mulgundawa Operation is 227Ha is size and fed with > sea water strength brine can produce 35,000 tonnes per annum.

Burnsfield Operations

The Burnsfield salt field operation is Australian Saltworks’ newest operation and is located in the mid north of South Australia. This salt field sits on top of a high quality and high density natural brine deposit. The salt field is capable of producing 15,000 tonnes per annum. The site is well located to service South Australian and New South Wales markets.

Yorke Peninsula Bulk Salt Development

The company owns a large exploration licence EL4624 on the southern end of the Yorke Peninsula. This area has a number of excellent salt resources with exploration underway to prove up reserves. This location provides a suitable climate for salt production and access to deep water port facilities at nearby Port Giles to transport salt by bulk shipment to domestic and international destinations. The exploration lease is also surrounded by exploration licences and proven Gold, Copper & Uranium resources. Preliminary estimates suggest the site has the good potential for the development of a large scale bulk salt operation.

Cooke Plains Salt Development

This exploration lease EL4633 is held over an area of salinity affected land which includes a number of existing salt lakes. The site has excellent access to the main highways between Adelaide & Melbourne/Sydney. The site also is in close proximity to the main Adelaide Melbourne rail line and electricity, natural gas and water pipeline infrastructure. A similar and extensive regional saline groundwater resource underlies the site. The company believes that there are excellent prospects of progressing an integrated development at the location involving green energy, water, salt & salinity control possibly along with land based aquaculture. Preliminary estimates suggest the site has the potential to allow the business to significantly increase its manufactured product output with attractive freight access to key markets in Sydney and Melbourne.

SW WA Salt Development

The company is investigating options for establishing a salt refining operation in the south west of WA. A number of lake options are under review to provide crude salt input into the operation. The locations under review provide excellent freight advantage into the WA domestic salt markets with an emphasis on Perth markets. The company believes that with modest investment in refining facilities, the market can be serviced from a superior cost base than that of existing suppliers.

Bowen Operations

The Bowen solar salt field commenced operations in the 1920’s. The operation is a sea water solar salt field which has an evaporation area of 154 hectares. The process involves pumping seawater from a tidal creek into the field and evaporating the brine as it passes through a sequence of ponds. Salt is deposited in crystallisers which are harvested annually. Salt is washed and refined. Most of Bowen’s output is sold to stockfeed manufacturers and rural suppliers throughout north Queensland and down into SE Queensland. Salt is also manufactured for water treatment, hide & skin, chemical and pool markets. The Bowen site can produce around 20,000 tonnes of salt annually. The company acquired the site in 2014 and entered into a new 50 year salt lease underpinning its significant investment in the operation.

Nalpa Operations

Located to the east of the Mulgundawa saltfield, the Nalpa operation is Australian Saltworks’ biggest current operation and is 221Ha in size. The salt field is a conventional solar salt operation using high saturation brine as an input. The salt composition has higher purity NaCl than sea water and coupled with the high concentration makes the site a very productive salt operation. Fed with brine between 2x & 3x sea water strength, the operation with 30Ha of crystalliser area regularly harvests in excess of 45,000 tonnes per annum.
